You can buy cheaper chargers but why risk going on the water with a dead batteries or even worse fried batteries from being massively over charged? Being able to ensure my batteries will all be in peak condition for my next trip is just one less thing to worry about.
I won't know how well it works until spring. However it did arrive in perfect condition in a matter of days. Anything I have ever purchased within the Hummingbird and Mota lines has worked flawlessly on 6 different boats since my first boat way back in 1985.
